Now being a very important part of health and safety high visibility clothing is an essential part of any project. Due to years of rain-water damage we had to remove two corroded steel beams from our front elevation above our shop at 150 Deptford high st. I project managed the job and always had health and safety at the forefront of any decision High visibility clothing had to be worn at all times. Scaffolding was erected and all work took place on the planks so high visibility clothing came into it’s own in terms of being workmen being able to see each over on all levels. Yellow Hi-vis vests, yellow hard hats , Dax plus boots and Electron-B nylon gloves had to be worn at all times.
We had the added problem of the beams being supporting beams so propping had to take place. This involved the scaffolding team inserting steel needles through the top part of the elevation which were supported by the scaffolding on the outside and internally by “jacks”. The scaffolding team had to wear Hi visibility clothing. Hi-vis veats, Chukka boots ,red hard hats and yellow criss cross gloves.
Once propped we begun work removing the rusted steels. Making sure that vented googles were worn at all times these were removed and replaced with 2 – 2.2x140x100 pre cast concrete lintels which were dry packed into position. Hi visibility clothing played a great part because these heavy item had to be lifted manually into position and knowing where all the team were at all times was easy when wearing hi-visibility clothing. These in place we removed the props and began rendering the external wall and plastering internally. With buckets, trowels, plaster and sand/cement render flying everywhere Hi-visibility clothing came into it’s own. With the walls plastered and rendered we had to wait a day or so to allow to dry so we moved onto the roof. This being 10 meters above ground level health & safety is paramount and a workman that can be seen wearing a Hi vis jacket is generally a safe workman. The roof was relined with felt to make whether tight. Orange hi vis vests, Brisker boots and Action trousers were the workwear clothing for the job.Although being june Hi vis jackets were needed due to the’ great’ summer we’re having. The roof lined we could now start painting. Having to do all this on the scaffolding levels hi vis jackets were still in demand due to the early starts when it was still cold.
Hi vis jackets and coats are great due to their generous cut jobs like painting can be done with ease. However by mid-afternoon Hi Vis jackets were a bit warm so we were back in our Hi Vis yellow vests. The Hi Vis jackets now became something to sit on ! That’s how good the padding is !
Hi visibility jackets are also suitable for cycling in the cold winter months making sure you can be seen on those cold dark nights having fluorescence strips. So you will warm ,dry and safe. Also the hi vis jacket can be used for security on sites and door men on club door, these Hi vis jackets make you look twice the size ! so avoiding any problems before they begin ! Also for the cold nights at what ever festival you are a steward at these vi vis jackets are brilliant.
